The farmhouse porch is one of our favorite spots. It's perfect for long summer nights or fall mornings, for breakfast, dinner, and everything in-between. We've shared many days of joy & laughter together on the porch....

...which is why it's been on my to-do list to update and refresh as we head into August! Mr. Maple and I started fixing and repairing the porch floor last fall before the winter months set in, and I was ready to get started as soon as the weather warmed up. Other projects have put this one on hold, but I finally got around to it a few weeks ago & can't wait to share it with you.

I knew I wanted to change the lighting fixtures and give it more of a farmhouse feel, so I reached out to @steellighting to bring some of their beautiful, American-made lights to the farmhouse porch. They recommended the Carson light. I love the high gloss, black finish that gives the farmhouse porch the perfect touch.

The next area to tackle was our front door. It was definitely time for an update and a change.

I really wanted a door that would fit the farmhouse and looked like it belonged here. I found a door that I could salvage from an old farm in our area, and I was so tickled! However, I knew I needed hardware…@baldwinhardware came in right in the nick of time with a beautiful set of Torrey Pines venetian bronze hardware. It literally *made* the door and has been such a fun conversation piece for folks visiting the farmhouse.

The porch is one spot that I feel like says, "welcome to our farm!" in the warmest of ways! Don't forget to check out my summer porch tour video on Instagram for more details and a closer look! Make sure you grab a cup of coffee and, as always, be a light & shine bright!

Blessings,

Welcome to the fall porch here at Maple Creek!

This year, as in years past, I wanted the porch to display all of the fall goodness that you find here at our farm. I grabbed cornstalks from the field & lots of pumpkins from our pumpkin patch and set to work. I’m not sure why but I absolutely love the look of pumpkins spilling down the front steps of the farmhouse. It makes me smile...so that’s what I did. You have to love what you’re creating and make it your own!

I also wanted to give it a cozy look so I used lights from Better Homes & Gardens to frame the space. I put them at the top of the porch and wove them throughout the pumpkins down the steps. Next, to keep the “cozy” vibe going, I used lanterns from The Christmas Tree Shop and Wegmans. I’m kind of a lantern junkie, so I love to keep several on-hand to decorate a space. One tip I’ve found is to look for lanterns at the end of every season. They usually go on sale, so you can store them and pull them out when you need them.

For the door this year I choose a galvanized piece from (surprise!) Better Homes & Gardens as well. I let my little mailbox from Hobby Lobby stay put. It’s one of my favorite purchases, definitely a year-round staple! The signs displayed are from TJ Maxx. I found them both when I was out shopping one weekend and thought they would be a nice addition to the fall porch.

If I could offer one piece of decor advice when decorating an outdoor space, it would be this: try to use AS MANY of the natural elements as possible. Keep it organic, fresh and beautiful. For example, I incorporated hay bales, fresh mums, ferns and cornstalks for maximum effect & low cost. In the warmer seasons, I use fresh flowers from the garden wherever possible. Decorating doesn’t have to break the bank! You can have a beautiful space that you love, even on a tight budget.

Friends, I’d love to know how you tackled your “fall porch.” Tag me in your pictures! I’ll be reposting my favorites on my IG stories over the coming weeks. As always, thanks for reading! Comment below or share this post to spread the love!

Blessings,

The fall porch just might be my favorite spot to decorate here at the farm each year. It's so satisfying to head out to the pumpkin patch and pick out just the right pumpkins to line the steps of the farmhouse!

This year I wanted to have A LOT of cornstalks. I had saved some bunches from last year and wanted to add new ones to give them that fresh fall feeling. Can one ever have too many cornstalks?

...I think not! I also wanted to incorporate lighting to give it a magical glow at night. While hunting for a great deal, I found lighting from Better Homes and Garden on sale for under ten dollars, and knew they would be perfect in this spot. Another lighting source are my solar powered lanterns from Sonnenglas. They are the very best for any occasion and can give a new look to any décor.

My next step was to find one new element. This year, that was the little postal box attached to the door. I found this cutie at Hobby Lobby. With their amazing 40% off coupon, it proved to be a fantastic deal that added just the right touch! Yay for coupons & thrifty shopping!

The wreath on the door is from Micheal’s and is feathered with the touches of autumn colors. This time of year, those wreaths have a special spot in my heart. I also added a yummy cinnamon broom from Trader Joe's by the door to give the entrance a little spooky/ whimsical vibe as well.

The old vintage scale was a piece I found in the upper barn when we moved in. It’s a heavy piece with so much character and I was longing to give it some front-and-center attention this fall. I loaded it with pumpkins and it was literally brought back to life. So much vintage goodness from this piece of history!

This year I went very light on the mums and heavy on the grasses and ferns. I love the look of fall grasses on a porch and in the gardens around Maple Creek.

How do you like to decorate your porch for fall? Do you have your pumpkins all picked out? Any fun fall finds, of vintage pieces, you've stumbled across?
